Healthier Food Substitutes
When your recipe calls for...
Butter.....................use margarine (look for the one that lists liquid vegetable oil as the first ingredient and contains no more than 2 grams of saturated fat per tablespoon).
Cream......................use fat free evaporated milk or fat free liquid non dairy creamer.
Whole Milk.................use fat free milk or fat free or low fat buttermilk.
Whipped Cream..............use frozen fat free or light whipped topping.
Sweetened Condensed Milk...use fat free sweetened condensed milk.
Regular Sour Cream.........use non fat or light sour cream.
Regular Yogurt.............use fat free or low fat yogurt.
Whole Milk Cream Cheese....use fat free or reduced fat cream cheese.
Ice Cream..................use non fat or low fat frozen yogurt, ice milk or sherbet.
Whole Eggs.................use egg whites (substitute two eggs whites for each whole egg) or egg substitute. For baked goods, beat the whites until foamy for a fluffier product.
Baking Chocolate...........use unsweetened cocoa powder. (In some recipes, you will need to mix it with oil or margarine to substitute for chocolate.)
In addition to being a low-fat food, raspberries rank in the top 10 antioxidant-high fruits and vegetables!
They possess almost 50% higher antioxidant activity than strawberries.
Antioxidants are believed to help prevent and repair oxidative stress, a process that damages body cells and has been linked to the development of diseases such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease.
